BGen Jacinto R. Bareng, commander of 102nd Infantry (IGSOON) Brigade of the Philippine Army has asked the New people's Army (NPA) to lay down their arms and return to the comfort of their families and friends.

Bareng statement came at the heel of an encounter between troops of the 53rd Infantry battalion under 102nd Brigade with undetermined number of "NPA terrorists of SECOM-KARA, Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee on December 10, 2017 at around 3:07 in the afternoon."

"This is the ongoing hot pursuit operation of 53rd Infantry battalion to destroy the NPA terrorists in their area of operation," said the statement, adding that "The firefight is still ongoing."

The statement said their ground troops are on the offensive since civilians in the area are rejecting the presence of the NPA terrorists who are extorting money and foodstuff from them.

Bareng said the “Armed struggle has only brought sufferings, death and misery to our people. Lay down your arms and return to the comfort of your families and friends and to ensure safety and well-being and that of the NPA’s family.” (Tabak-DPAO)
