Though an unsigned statement distributed to the media by Lasureco personnel in a press conference identified Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr, and Ditsaan Ramain Municipal Mayor Ali Adiong as behind the attack, the police has not yet revealed any suspect.

Police said it is not easy to pinpoint a suspect as there was no eyewitness and the only evidence it got were some alleged 18 shells of grenade rounds that hit the compound of Lasureco and which were handed over by Lasureco to the police when they arrived.

MARAWI CITY (May 24) – No less than twenty rounds of grenades allegedly hit the headquarters of the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Lasureco) at Barangay Gadongan, here at around 12:45 early morning today.

Lasureco general manager Sultan Ashary P. Maongco made this disclosure today in a press conference held at the power cooperative headquarters.

Maongco said that judging from the sequence of events, the attack was done by the group led by Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal “Bombit” A. Adiong, Jr.

Maongco said Adiong did not like the good outcome of the rehabilitation of Lasureco as it resulted to the disconnection of 35 municipalities that do not pay their power bills.

Maongco also said that the feud arose when Mayor Ali U. Adiong of Ditsaan Ramain, Lanao del Sur and men burned the crane truck of JERA General Construction that is undertaking the rehabilitation of the 69 KV and 13.2 KV lines, a joint project of the Lasureco and the Department of Energy.

Mayor Adiong denied the accusation and told the press he had nothing to do with it. The mayor said he was very disappointed on the incident and formed a fact-finding committee led by the police chief in Ditsaan Ramain to help for the immediate solution of the burning incident.

Earlier, Lasureco, through Maongco, filed a criminal complaint against Mayor Adiong and his men before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Lanao del Sur for DESTRUCTIVE ARSON.

Maongco said he also filed an administrative case against the mayor for grave misconduct and oppression before the Office of the Ombudsman for Mindanao.

Meanwhile, in an interview, Marawi City Police Director P/Supt. Al Abner W. Santos said the local police is still investigating the shooting incident at Lasureco.

He said, “We have yet to identify the perpetrators of the crime as the police investigation is on-going.”

He said, “What we have at present, are eighteen empty shells of grenades fired from M203 firearms and some bullet shrapnel, but we have yet to find an eye witness of the shooting incident.”

It was learned that it was not the police who recovered the empty shells from the crime scene; the shells were handed over to them by Lasureco people when they arrived at its office.
