MARAWI CITY, October 5 — Hosting the first seminar ever held in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur on the friendly uses of Hyacinth or water lily, Aba Al-Khail Computer School once again proves that it is always ahead in science and technology innovation and in programs its peers are yet to venture in.

Last Monday, October 5, the school hosted a seminar conducted by Hyacinth for Green Energy (HiGi), an international non-government organization working for the protection and safeguarding of the environment and innovating technology that can help humanity.

With a theme, “Hyacinth for Green Energy,” the seminar was attended by students of Aba Al Khail Computer School. It was an orientation on how to protect the environment and be benefitted by it.

HiGi discussed initial orientation on how to transform water lilies into uses like biomass and biogas that is friendly to nature and can be an alternative source of renewable energy.

According to Nashrudin Piang Kusain, executive director of Adat-Betad, Inc., the local partner of HIGI, the project has been started in Maguindanao province in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Kusain said hyacinth is abundant in Maguindanao and other areas of the region. “Besides,” he added, “water lilies can be grown easily as it multiplies twice every twelve days.”

ACS president Kareem Indol told the New Ranao Star that his school venture on this kind of program because it is concerned in safeguarding the nature and environment.

He said protecting and safeguarding our nature and environment is the duty of every individual and institutions.

It shall be recalled that ACS, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Cotabato City, and other stakeholders successfully held the Marawi Conference on Peace, which was attended by leaders of civil societies, the police and military and representatives of Local Government Units and peace advocates.
