How Islamic is the OIC?

Looking Back
When the devastating typhoon Sendong hit Mindanao especially the Cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan years ago, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was among the international organizations that pledged to help the victims.
Sendong left more than a thousand dead, more than a thousand missing, and some 10,000 families displaced.
Government media reported that the OIC tapped the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to assist them in the evaluation of the needs of the victims and for them to be able to identify the long range plan that they could help provide for the two cities.
In fact, the media said, the OIC stressed that they were more interested in the rehabilitation of damaged areas and assist in the provision of relocation sites for the victims. The plans were intended not only for the Muslims but also for the Christians, said the media reports.
It is almost three years since deadly Sendong left Mindanao and since the OIC announcement, yet no OIC assistance has come yet to the victims or has been heard of again.
As Muslims, we look at the OIC as an entity depiction of our religion. The OIC is the strongest Islamic organization in the world and is looked upon as vanguard of Islam and the Muslims and if we are to believe what the Qur’an says and the Prophet Mohammad taught us, Islam is the show-window of honesty and unbroken promises. It is also the right body to help the needy and the OPPRESSED for what is Islam without them.
Yet, the OIC has nothing of the sort. This may be the reason why Muslim countries are defeated by their enemies one by one. And sometimes, we could not help but ponder that the OIC might have been created against Islam and the Muslims.
