MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur: The city government has banned the use of tinted public utility vehicles running in the streets within the Islamic city and no one is spared from the law.
Banning the tinted vehicles to run in the city streets was finally agreed to be strictly enforced in last July 2 meeting of the Marawi City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) held at the city hall Islamic conference room.
The CPOC meeting was presided by its chair, the city mayor Majul Usman Gandamra. It was attended by the majority of the Sangguniang Panlungsod members, and almost all chairmen of the 96 barangays of the city.
Marawi City police chief PSSupt Jamal Christopher Adiong presented and discussed police actions on the three crime incidents that occurred in the previous month (June) such as the kidnapping incident in Guimba, the killing incident at the old Aggie Village in MSU, and the alleged rape case at the MSU golf course.
He said that the victim in the Guimba kidnapping incident was released. The motive of the kidnapping was not mentioned and whether a ransom was paid. On the killing incident at the old aggie village, the investigation is still ongoing. As for the alleged rape at the golf course, a case has already been filed against the suspects.
The following issues have been discussed and resolutions adopted during previous Council meetings were raised and immediate actions are done:
On kidnapping
1. The Sangguniang Panglungsod adopted a resolution now an ordinance prohibiting the use of tinted public utility vehicles and providing penalties upon violation of the law. This was already signed by the city mayor and will be implemented by the city police.
2. Visibility of policemen in schools like APCES and in roads in the city.
3. Continue regular checking or inspections of all vehicles that pass through the checkpoints entry to the city.
4. Additional checkpoints and/or BPAT posts will be placed to some isolated areas in the city like Barangay Guimba and others.
On Traffic Problems
1. Memorandum No. 23, Series of 2018 to vacate all Illegal Terminal Areas in the City was signed by City Mayor on June 19, 2018 and this will be implemented by the City Police.
2. Notice of demolition will be served again to the illegal vendors along main roads in the city. They will be relocated in the centralized public market in Barangay Loksa Datu. Another public market to open soon to the public.
3. A recommendation of the CPOC to the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) on the possible use of commuters on the diversion road from GMA terminal to MSU, Mapandi Bridge instead of bypassing the Rorogagus and Guimba areas, and Pumping or Bubunga Marawi road (from City Hall and Bangon to Saduc via Pumping) but this is subject to the security measures being imposed by the security forces.
On CCTV Cameras: CPOC Chair discussed that the installations of CCTV cameras around the city is part of the Comprehensive Rehabilitations and Reconstruction Plan for outside ground zero or Most Affected Areas.
On Liquor issue: enforcement on liquor ban will again continuously be observed in the city. There is already an existing city ordinance on this matter.
On the return of Barangay Bubonga Marawi residents: for the residents of Bubonga Marawi who haven't returned yet, CPOC through its chairman will request to TFBM as co - field manager their return the soonest the possible time except on the three meters easement from the agus river.
Other very important matters were discussed also in connection with the city's peace and security concerns. Request of the SIYAP group to LGU Marawi, PNP AFP and JTFR concerning the peace and security of the city was discussed also. Most of their requests were already discussed in the previous CPOC meetings. - Rocaya Sumndad Otical/with stories from CIO-MC/RSP
