“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that defenses of peace must be constructed,” UNESCO’s preamble quoted by Dr. Akram Latip, Executive Director of the MSU-Institute of Peace and Development in Mindanao. “MSU’s peace initiatives are all we need to inculcate among the students the very essence of peace,” he added.
Dr. Samuel Anonas, AVP for Academic Affairs and Chairperson of the MSU System Fundamentals of Peace Education Committee expressed that if only peace education was included in the curriculum of all degree programs of the university back in its early days, Marawi Siege could not have happened. “Together with the FPE committee, we are doing our very best to guide our students in embracing peace and share it to others,” he added.
Gracing the momentous event is the MSU System President, Dr. Habib W. Macaayong who congratulated the organizers for a job well done and he expressed his gratitude to OPAPP for the support extended to the university in championing peace. The President, together with his family, some university officials and employees did not leave the campus at the height of Marawi Siege to ensure that MSU remains as the beacon of hope in Marawi and Lanao del Sur, particularly on peace building and economic development.
Meanwhile, the OPAPP based in Ortigas and students of MSU General Santos joined the Virtual Peace Expo.
