MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur: Dean of Mranaw Journalists Masiding Noor Yahya has announced his pick for good writing news and headlines from participants of the Two-Day Training and Workshop on Campus Journalism held at the provincial capitol complex here on August 1-2, 2018.
Calling his choices among participants as Dean's Lister on News Writing Workshop, Dean Yahya said there are two good headlines of news articles he had chosen.
He said:
"One is 'MCD Organizes Workshop on Campus Journalism' written by Norhanie Coro, a Grade 10 student from Hadiyyah International School; and
"Two is 'Training Future Journalists' by Sittie Hafsa Malna, a Grade 10 from RPMD National Science High School."
On the other hand, there are five news reports written in English dean Yahya had selected:
1) "MCD Organizes Workshop on Campus Journalism" - written by Norhanie Coro of Hadiyyah International School;
2) "Two-Day Training Workshop for 130 teachers, students" - by Camar Ariong Intia, Grade II, Marawi City National High School;
3) "2-Day Training Workshop on Campus Journalism" - by Hassan, Najib H.Z., Grade 10 RPMD NSHS;
4) "Campus Journalism" - Jehannie M. Abdulmalik, Grade 9, Jamiatu Muslim Mindanao;
5) "Young Journalists on Training" - Macalayo, Farouk B., Grade 10, RPMD NSHS
Dean Yahya has also selected the following three articles in Filipino:
1) "Pagsasanay ng mga Mamamahayag" - by Alandoni Akir Jr., Marawi City National High School;
2) (No title) - written by Norjannah P. Baulo, Hadiyyah International School."
Dean Yahya said he did not follow the usual rules in the selection process. But he believed all participants can be good news writers.
He said: "First, all the participants, be they elementary or high schools students, can be good news writers and journalists if they aspire to. In the workshop on news writing, they have clearly demonstrated their great potentials as future journalists.
"Second, after reading their articles, I decided to have my own criteria setting aside the usual standard for picking out the first five good news articles. My criteria are based on the how Headline is written, and whether the news presented is clearly understood by the reader.
"And lastly, this is not a competition where winners are to be adjudged. It is only exercise to determine how far participants acquire knowledge on the subject" - RSOY/RSP
