ARMM vice governor to meet Maranao kidnap victims, parents

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur: Haroun Al-Rashid Alonto Lucman Jr., vice governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), is inviting victims of the reported trend of kidnapping incidents victimizing Maranaos mostly young women to a meeting of Lanao del Sur Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) to be held at the provincial capitol here on Monday, July 30 at 9:00 AM.
In his Facebook post Sunday morning, Lucman said in Maranao that he is inviting all victims of this new problem of kidnapping that happens in Marawi, Iligan, and CDO, to attend in the PPOC meeting on Monday morning, July 30, 2018 at the provincial capitol.
"Panduan aya o provincial governor tano a si Gov. Soraya Alonto Adiong ago si Vgov Bombit Alonto Adiong," Lucman said.(This is an instruction from the provincial governor Gov. Soraya Alonto Adiong and VGov Bombit Alonto Adiong.)
He added, "Importante a makadarpa kano an maamad pyapya ankaya di mataro a mbarambarang a myanggulaula," Lucman said. (It is important that you attend to clarify these various issues.)
Kidnapping of Maranao youth has been reported in social media to occur almost daily in Lanao del Sur, in the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro and other localities.
Social media reports said only a few of the victims had been released or able to escape, a few found dead and the rest are still missing to date.
Motive has yet to be established by authorities.
No ransom was reportedly demanded from the victim's relatives.
The latest report of kidnapping incident took place in Iligan City in broad daylight. The victim is a Maranao coed studying in one of the colleges in the City.
Immediately after taking her lunch at an eatery in a busy downtown street on Friday, the victim was about to cross the street on her way to her school when suddenly an elderly man accosted her and pushed her to a black HUV which stopped in her front.
The victim, however, was able to escape from her abductors after she fought back using needle pins against the culprits.
She said there were five culprits, 4 male and one female, who are all Maranaos.
The incident was reported to the police.
No suspect has been arrested yet. - RSP
