Lugait Lawyer Pleads Extension of Time for Survivors to Exhume Graves in Old Cemetery

A young lawyer of Lugait, Misamis Oriental is appealing to the Local Authorities not to desecrate the graves in the old Municipal Cemetery.
In his letter to Mayor Willie G. Lim and Vice Mayor Jay Michael T. Manlawe, Atty. Angel Arizo Lim, Jr., he appealed to the authorities not to touch the graves of his poor father, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives and friends who were original natives and settlers in the municipality.
He said the graves are in danger of desecration because of Municipal Ordinance (M.O.) No. 20, Series of 2015.
He is appealing to the authorities not to demolish the graves of the poor departed.
He implored Article II, Section 11 of the 1987 Constitution which states: “THE STATE VALUES THE DIGNITY OF EVERY HUMAN PERSON AND GUARANTEES FULL RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS”.
Lim said that he would not discuss deeper on the said provisions because he believes that they have understood it with their hearts.
There are other things that needs more and urgent attention, he said in his letter.
Some of these concerns are water supply, development of the youth, sports, education, livelihood, care for the Senior Citizens and many others, he narrated
Lim pleaded that if possible focus should better be on the stated concerns for there appears no urgency and importance of the move intended by the ordinance.
Evidence of this is the fact that there has been no Development Plan presented to the people and most of all M.O. No. 20, itself does not mention any reason why the graves of those who have been resting peacefully should be disturbed, he averred.
He said that he is worried, saddened and afraid that if the ordinance is to be implemented an irreparable damage and injury to great majority especially those poor Lugaitnons who were buried in the old cemetery.
Lastly, Lim prayed to the authorities that they will listen to his appeal and that they will accord great attention to this plea from a poor resident whose aim in the end is to recognize, uphold and respect “Human Dignity” by not disturbing, desecrating and destroying the graves of those who are already resting peacefully in the old cemetery.
