Dateline Iligan. LPCC ASKS PUBLIC TO USE “TIMBANGAN NG BAYAN”

The Local Price Coordinating Council encouraged the public to use the “Tibangan ng Bayan” or Public Weighing Scales in the public markets.

Ms. Carmen Magnaye, Chief of the Permits and Licensing Division of the City Mayor’s Office admitted that they had caught weighing scales that did not pass proper calibration or defective.

Magnaye made this statement in connection the observance of Consumer Welfare Month.

She said that selling of underweight goods is a violation of the rights of consumers.

On the other hand Market Superintendent Jemrevith Sechong announced that there are “Timbangan ng Bayan” or weighing scales both in the Palao and Central Markets.

Iligan LGU raises Minimum Wages

Minimum wages of workers in the Iligan City local government has been raised from P306 to P318 per day.

During its regular session last October 6, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed the resolution sponsored by Committee on Labor Chairman Ariel Anghay authorizing the said pay increase.

According to Anghay, the increase of P12 per day is in compliance with the new minimum set by the Regional Wage and Productivity Board for Northern Mindanao last July 3, 2015.

Earlier Acting Mayor Ruderic C. Marzo promised to increase the minimum wages of casual workers in lieu of the rice subsidy proposed earlier.

It was learned that rice subsidy cannot be given to casuals of the local government since they are Job Order workers with no employer-employee relations with the local government.
