The 56th Anniversary of the creation of Lanao del Norte was celebrated by the leaders and people of the said province Saturday.
It was led by Governor Mohammad Khalid Q. Dimaporo, grandson of political rivals, the late Congressman Mohammad Dimaporo and Governor Arsenio Quibranza.
The governor is the son of Lanao del Norte 2nd District Congressman Abdullah Dimaporo and Lanao del Norte 1st District Representative Imelda Q. Dimaporo whose marriage almost 30 years ago, ended over a decade of political rivalry between their parents.
During the culmination program, DILG Secretary Mar Roxas was the Guest Speaker who praised the young Dimaporo for being one of the best performers in the entire country.
On the other hand, Dimaporo said that it was the second time he invited Roxas to the celebration though the latter was not able to come last year.
He added that he really wanted Roxas to come because even before he became Governor he already saw many projects given by the latter as Senator.
Roxas took the occasion as an opportunity to turn over 32 patrol jeeps to the PNP Directorate of Lanao del Norte.
However, he hastily left after his speech because according to him his helicopter pilot warned that they might not be able to take off if the weather worsens.
Observers noted that just as he arrived it began to rain and it was raining heavily while he was giving his speech.
It can be recalled that since the day before PAGASA has been sending out weather bulletins about tropical storm EGAY that was approaching eastern Luzon and bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the country.
After Roxas’ departure, Governor Dimaporo addressed the people recounting the progress that the province and people have achieved during his almost 9 years in office.
He told the audience that this year’s celebration of Araw ng Lanao del Norte is the last under his leadership since he will be stepping down from office by the end of June 2016.
The program was also attended by Congresswoman Imelda Q. Dimaporo, Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Lualhati Antonino, PNP Regional Director Chief Superintendent Lyndel Desquitado, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, PA, Commander Col Gilbert Gapay and other national and local government officials. – The New Ranao Star
