The Regional Development Planning and Development Board (REDPB) intends to have representatives in the local planning and development meetings, it was learned.

During the first meeting of the REDPB last week, it was mentioned that requests had already been sent to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) so that these authorities will authorize the participation of REDPB representatives in local government planning sessions.

This move is prompted by observations that some local government plans have problems in conforming to regional planning guidelines.

It can be recalled that the infrastructure projects proposed by the provinces of Lanao del Sur and Tawi-tawi for 2016 were not incorporated in the Regional Development Plans of DPWH that was approved by the REDPB last April 16 due to defects arising in prioritization.

The infirmities of the said plans could have been corrected right at the local government levels if representatives of the REDPB participated in the deliberations of the same, it was observed.

As of April 18 when the 1st meeting of the REDPB was held, it was gathered that the DILG and the LGUs have not acted on the requests made by the REDPB. – The New Ranao Star
