MARAWI CITY - One Hundred Eighty high school teachers of Lanao del Sur Schools Division I went through a 3-day training-workshop on Basic Journalism last September 22-24 at the Division Learning Center in barangay Datu Saber, this City.
Schools Division Superintendent Normillah R. Pangandaman, Ph. D., initiated the said activity in partnership with the “The New Ranao Star” to let the participants acquire the needed skills to make them more effective in coaching their students and be able to publish a school organ.
Education Program Supervisor Abdullah D. Macabunar designed the Basic Journalism Training/Workshop course in coordination with Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Professor Masiding Noor Yahya.
“Professor Yahya personally handled Journalism in General, Copy Reading, Headline Writing, Collaborative Publishing and Basic Layout.
Dr. Noraida Macampong handled Correct Usage (English) and Dr. Aminah Solaiman shared “Wasting Gamit” (Pilipino).
Data Gathering, Organizing, News Writing, Feature Writing, Radio Broadcasting and Script Writing were handled by “The New Ranao Star” Managing Editor and Radioman Frank E. Dosdos, Jr.
“The New Ranao Star” writer Sittie Aysha M. Dicali handled Editorial/Opinion Writing.
“The New Ranao Star” ARMM Bureau Chief Shiela Quiambao handled Sports Writing.
Each topic was followed by a Workshop where each participant applied their acquired skills.
The individual work was intended to be used by each of the participant when they return to their stations and prepare for the publishing of their school organ.

At the end of the workshop Mr. Alfredo V. Ayco of Kilkili National High School in East Kilikili, Wao, Lanao del Sur, the Coach of the School Organ that won last year during the National Press Conference for High Schools in Tacloban City, told the other participants that he acquired many skills during the recent workshop that he had not learned before.
