MARAWI CITY, May 2 -- Paz y Desarrollo-PyD (Peace and Development), Spanish international non-government development agency has invited media practitioners in the locality on a one-day seminar on Gender in Media to be held at Mamitua Saber Research and Technology Center here on May 8.
Ms. Samera Umpa, communication and advocacy assistant in Marawi City, told The New Ranao Star that the seminar is in line with the PyD implementation of its "Female, forward! Stand up, Step up, Speak up" communication and advocacy plan in the Philippines.
Umpa said PyD Female Forward Program, as it is locally known, is focused in the City of Marawi and the Municipality of Balindong in Lanao del Sur, ARMM; and the City of Butuan and the Municipalities of Kitcharao, Santiago and Tubay in Agusan del Sur, Caraga Region.
It is aimed, she said, to contribute to the realization of women's political and civil rights by supporting initiatives that promote equal participation of women and men in good governance and democracy, especially on participating in regional and national initiatives that act as debate and analysis forum to increase women's political and civil participation; strengthening good governance for gender equality, promoting women's participation and incorporating gender equality in the political agenda; and encouraging initiatives on citizenship which promote women's political and civil rights.
In 2010, PyD started a Regional Program to Promote Gender Equality in Political Participation in Bangladesh, Cambodia, (the) Philippines, Timor Leste and Vietnam funded by the Spanish Agency for International development Cooperation (AECID).
