Lasureco subsidizes power consumption for low-income consumers
In the advent of the pandemic COVID-19, the national government has been rampantly working on series of initiatives to mitigate the impact of its persistence with the underlying support of several sectors including the energy sector wherein electric cooperatives and other affiliated organizations are involved.
The NEA Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong following the declaration of the State of Calamity and Public Health Emergency through Proclamation No. 929 and 922 issued a memorandum to all-electric cooperatives pertaining to the abeyance of their institutional activities and other similar events that requires mass gatherings to give primacy to the welfare of the employees and of the member-consumers.
The Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LASURECO) under the management of General Manager Dr. Nordjiana L. Dipatuan-Ducol emphasized that aside from ensuring the unimpeded delivery of energy goods and services to Lanao del Sur and Marawi City, there is an urgent call for the activation of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the organization which paved the way through the immediate adoption of the Pantawid Liwanag Program led and conceptualized by the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. (PHILRECA) in cooperation with the National Association of General Managers of Electric Cooperatives (NAGMEC) wherein she is an incumbent member of the Board of Directors (BOD) for both organizations.
The program upon the implementation of LASURECO will subsidize the electricity needs of its “lifeline consumers” whose electric consumption ranges from 1kwH but not more than 26kwh. General Manager Ducol said “ despite the tough situation and crisis faced by LASURECO, its heart is firmly-committed towards serving the member-consumers beyond its capacity during the extraordinary times and the immediate implementation of the program will ease the impact of the pandemic coronavirus to our low-income member-consumers specifically on their basic
The program covers the entirety of the franchise area: Lanao del Sur and Marawi City. The Pantawid Liwanag coupon will automatically be given to deserving low-income consumers falling into the required consumption level.
The Management and the Board of Directors spearheaded by Atty. Vicar Loureen G. Lofranco together with the frontline employees of LASURECO has been working 24/7 for operation and maintenance services to ensure the stability of electricity amidst the global pandemic. The time remains highly occupied for the cooperative as it explores other alternative programs and opportunities that best serve the current interest of the consumers and stakeholders in these very trying times.
