ILIGAN CITY: City Mayor Celso G. Regencia has indefinitely suspended school classes of all levels and postponed all public activities and gatherings here effective March 13, 2020.

In a memorandum dated March 12, 2020, Regencia directed that classes in all levels including review and postgraduate classes, in both public and private schools or institutions are suspended for indefinite date.

He also postponed indefinitely all public activities and gatherings such as commencement exercises, barangay assemblies, sports events and the like.

“The directive is part of the local government’s action plan, to implement precautionary measures, giving ample time to sanitize school buildings and public facilities,” the city mayor said.

Regencia said, “the emerging threat of the fatal virus prompted the City of Iligan to take precautionary and preventive measures to halt the local transmission of COVID-19 as recommended by the Department of Health (DOH), Iligan Medical Society, other esteemed health partners, and advisers.”

He advised the public to stay calm and cooperate with local authorities. “Social distancing, diligent hand washinbg/hygiene, proper cough and/or sneeze etiquette should be addressed at all times,” the city chief executive added. (RSP)
