UPDATED: Marawi hit by Tornado

MARAWI CITY: Having yet to recover from the 2017 siege by armed terrorists, Marawi was again hit by a calamity this time a tornado on Monday afternoon. Nobody was reported hurt but it left damaged buildings and structures in five barangays of the city.
In an incident report posted at facebook, the city hall said five barangays of the city were affected and placed the damages to P720,000.00.
The report identified the barangays affected as:
1. Sagonsongan (7 classrooms of Fountain Harvest School in Area 5 totally damaged);
2. Fort (10 houses partially damaged);
3. Bangon (Buadi Sacayo auditorium, 20 houses, a waiting shed damaged and a tree uprooted);
4. Green (12 houses partially damaged and two totally damaged);
5. Barangay Saber (18 houses were partially damaged, a multicab partially damaged and a tree uprooted);
Residents said it was the first time they saw flying roofs and chairs and tree branches on different directions.
Locals first saw the tornado coming from the Basak area southeast from the city before it landed at Ground Zero or the Most Affected Area (MAA) of the Marawi Siege just kilometers away from the city hall.
Torogan burned in Bubong
In Bubong town, Lanao del Sur, a beautiful torogan (cultural heritage house) owned by the family of Bubong former mayor Ali Mundir razed to the ground.
Though there was no official announcement yet from authoriities as to the cause of the fire, it was said the fire took place when the building was hit by a lightning which they believed was associated with the tornado that hit Marawi.
Another local tale has it that a burning candle caused the fire.
Residents said the heritage house should have been saved from burning if the town has a fire-truck or if there was one in nearby municipalities.
But as in most towns of the province, there is no fire-truck available. (MNY)
