DAVAO CITY: The city government of Davao will extend cash assistance of P3.5 million to areas in Luzon recently hit by Typhoon “Quiel.”
The assistance, which comes from the city’s Quick Response Fund (QRF), is allocated for the provinces of Apayao and Cagayan and the municipalities of Allacapan, Abulug, Camanlaniugan, Santa Praxedes and Claveria in Cagayan.
Each province will receive P2 million, while each municipality will receive P300,000.
Alfredo Baloran, Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head, said the provinces and municipalities could spend the money where it is needed the most to cope with the damage caused by the typhoon.
“This has been the tradition of the city to assist other areas that were hit by different calamities. As long as they will declared as under a state of calamity, we will extend assistance to them,” he added.
Baloran assured that the city government has enough funds under the QRF should there be a need to assist DavaeƱos.
The QRF is 30 percent of the 5-percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund. (The Manila Times)
