DITSAAN RAMAIN, Lanao del Sur: A notorious cop killer in the province of Lanao del Sur was killed in an anti-drug operation conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in a barangay (village) here Tuesday afternoon.

P/Supt. Madzgani Mukaraam, chief of Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (LDSPPO), said Mamintal Caya Manan was killed after he opted to shoot out with PNP operatives when his men apprehended him and his accomplice Saidamen Ito Caya.

Manan was wanted for the murder of Police Staff Sergeant Mohammad C. Liwalug last December 4 docketed as NPS-RXVI-04-19A-000019.

Initial investigation showed that LDSPPO operatives conducted a buy-bust operation in Upper Pugaan village, this town. The suspects sensed that they were dealing with police poseur-buyer and ran towards a corn field.

Back up operatives chased and arrested them but Manan suddenly opened fire at the operating troops that ensued brief firefight resulting to the instant death of Manan.

Recovered from the deceased suspect was one piece heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and from Caya were one piece heat-sealed transpaarent sachet containing suspected shabu and one high explosive fragmentation grenade.

After the firefight, Lanao del Sur Provincial Crime Laboratory Office recovered from the crime scene one 9mm KG9 Sub-Machine Gun withSN 45182 with inserted magazine loaded with two live ammos, five cartridge cases, one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and one five hundred peso bill with SN AS240065 used as marked money.

Mukaram said, "This operation will serve as a stern warning to would-be cop killers that they cannot go scot free as the long arm of the law will eventually catch up on them." (MNY)
