Marawi IDPs must leave Iligan evac centers not later than March 31

ILIGAN CITY: Marawi Evacuees accommodated in Iligan city government facilities as evacuation enters are given until March 31, 2018 to leave even as Marawi city mayor Majul Gandamra asked for a two-week more extension waiting for the completion of temporary shelters being constructed in Marawi city poblacion.
Iligan city mayor Celso Regencia said during a press briefing conducted here on Friday, March 23 that he agreed to date as requested by Assistant Secretary Felix Castro.
“Sabi ni Sir,” pointed out Regencia, “Mayor, sana mapagbigyan mo ako na hanggang 31 March, dahil nga sa mga bata na dito nag-aaral ngayon sa Iligan City. So inunawa natin iyon kasi naman dapat matulungan ang mga bata.”
He said he did not yet receive the letter of Gandamra.
He said: “You know, months of April, May and June, there are a lot of fiestas in Iligan because this city city is Christian dominant. Sana naman po iyong mga temporary shelter natin na para sa mga evacuees ay mapagawa na po (ni)Mayor para naman po magagamit natin ang gymnasium natin at saka iyong isang paaralan kasi apat man lang iyong evacuation center natin dito – iyong Fishery School sa Buruon, iyong auditorium ng Buruon, iyong auditorium ng Maria Cristina at saka iyong auditorium ng Sta. Elena.”
Responding to question from the media regarding the selling of government-provided houses to Sendong victims by the victims in the city, Regencia said he had created a task force to look into the problem.
He said “this is illegal because it is very clear in the contract they signed that they cannot sell the houses in 15 years, the cannot lease it, nor can they improve it.”
He pointed out that if they no want anymore to stay in the houses provided by the government, they should return them to the government.

“Kasi kung hindi natin tutuldukan ang problemang ito, walang katapusan talaga itong mga tao na nabibigyan na ng bahay tapos ibenta. Kung hindi tayo makikialam dito ay iyon na lang palagi – naghihingi ng bahay, binigyan ng bahay tapos ibenta, na klaro naman doon sa usufruct contract na hindi nila puwede iyon ibenta at paarkilahan iyong bahay nila... internal problem iyon dito sa Iligan City, lulutasin ko po ito para naman po iyong mga biktima ng Sendong ay hindi palaging hihingi ng bahay dito sa atin po,” he added. - RSP
