Church-based groups visit Lumbatan for solidarity
Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro City, Social Action Center and Duyog Marawi were the faith-based organizations that visited Lumbatan.
They brought along with them priest, nuns, and Muslim volunteers to conduct various activities for the IDP’s who have sought refuge in seven selected barangays here.
According to Hakim Onsil of Duyog Marawi, the activity is a “church-based and interfaith response to the Marawi crisis.” Onsil is also the team leader of the solidarity visit.
During the activity, volunteers conducted activities for adults and youth IDP’s like pyscho-social interventions, gift-giving and feeding program for children.
Carl of SAC said that although it is their first time to go to Lumbatan and had to travel for hours, they still went there just to extend help.
He added that he hoped that their visit would bring a message of hope and tranquility to the IDP’s despite their difference in faith.
Today, December 3, school supplies, art materials, hygiene kits and books brought by the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro City, Social Action Center and Duyog Marawi were distributed to elementary learners of selected elementary schools in Lalapung, Macadar, Tambac, Lunay and Lumbac Bacayawan.
The distribution was spearheaded by the local government unit of Lumbatan under the leadership of Mayor Allan Lao. (Lumbatan Lanao del Sur)
