OPAPP, MSU-IIT to hold Conflict Context Setting Workshop on The Marawi Crisis

As lead agency of the Social Healing and Peacebuilding component of the Sub-Committee on Peace and Order of the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) together with the Institute of Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) of the Marawi State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) is undertaking a Peacebuilding Needs Assessment and Planning process.
As part of this process, a two-day “Conflict Context Setting Workshop on The Marawi Crisis” will be conducted on 17-18 October 2017 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Limketkai Avenue, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.
This workshop aims to come up with an in-depth and shared analysis of the Marawi crisis. Specifically, it aims to
(a) trace the roots and events that led to the onslaught of violent extremism in the country, particularly in Marawi City,
(b) determine actors, causes and key driving factors that led to the Marawi crisis;
(c) define the current conflict context and dynamics including corollary conflict issues and concerns; and
(d) formulate a Marawi conflict context analysis report.
Participants to this event shall be representatives from the Task Force Bangon Marawi Sub-Committees and Task Groups, LGU participants from ARMM, province, city and affected municipalities and barangays, other concerned government agencies, local sectoral, traditional and religious leaders, and civil society organizations.
