Maranao leaders ask Duterte to stop aireal strikes, mortar bombing in Marawi

As Malacañang hailed troops killed in clashes against the Maute group in Marawi City, Maranao leaders were disheartened why President Duterte did not visit thousands of Maranao evacuees housed in various evacuation centers in Iligan City, or even say a comforting word for them when he recently flew to Iligan City and visited those injured and killed soldiers.

Sultan Ysmail Ali of the Royal House of Baloi said, "It is disheartening to know that while President Duterte visited the soldiers who were wounded or killed in the Marawi crisis, he did not say any comforting word to the evacuees who were in Iligan during his visit there."

Meanwhile, Maranaos in Iligan City and nearby were supposed to hold a prayer rally Wednesday, May 31 to ask the president stop the aireal strikes and bombings in Marawi City to avoid the loss of civilian lives. Its organizers aborted the proposed rally allegedly due to military advice not to push it through.
On his part, Sultan Nasser D. Sampaco, chair of Marawi Sultanate League, told this writer that while he is also sad of the alleged President's snob of the Maranao evacuees, he still believed that the President is really concerned of the Maranao People whom Duterte said he partly belonged.
