Lanao del Sur vice governor Mamintal A. Adiong, Jr. presented his province’ accomplishment to the third summit of local government units of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) held here on November 30 to December 1, 2016.
He also presented the major issues and challenges that affect the delivery of services and what would be done to address these issues and challenges.
In a power presentation, Adiong emphasized two major challenges that could affect the delivery of the Programs, Projects, Strategies Activities (PPSAs) in each of the province’ 39 municipalities and one city what would be done to address them.
Adiong recalled how they started from scratch in the past nine years since he was elected governor in 2007 until he graduated his last third term last year.
His mother, Bai Soraya Alonto Adiong, was elected in May last year as provincial governor of Lanao del Sur while her son won as vice governor under her.
Vice Governor Adiong said the province was engulfed with stories of corruption, stifling businesses and grants from foreign investors.
“The once booming Lanao del Sur in the 60’s was dying in the 21st century, he stressed.
“Strangely, being the source of the hydroelectric plants running the turbines for the power supply in Northern Mindanao, Lanao del Sur own power supply is intermittent before the factors that hindered development and stability,” he said.
Adiong said that when he first sat in office, his administration formulated the Seven Point Reform Agenda prioritizing infrastructure development projects that will bring the agricultural products to the fore and provide access to rural areas, education and health care services.
Adiong said that with the support of the regional government through the Hataman administration, the provincial government has made tangible accomplishment in nine years.
He stressed, “The provincial government has been consistent recipient of the Seal of Good Local Governance in 2011, 2012 and 2014. The province has also been awarded the Seal for Disaster Preparedness in 2014 having complied with the DILG requirements on how disaster preparedness has been integrated in local development.”
During the workshop, VG Adiong was particularly concern on the unstable power supply in his province. He said without stable power supply, industry will hardly survive in Lanao del Sur.
Representing his governor-mother, VG Adiong led the local chief executives and their respective planning and development officers coming from the province of Lanao del Sur who attended the ARMM LGU two-day summit.
ARMM which is headed by Regional Governor Mujiv Hataman comprises the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi Tawi except the cities of Isabela in Basilan, Cotabato of Maguindanao.
