MANILA, Sept. 4 --- With President Rodrigo R. Duterte's declaration of "state of lawlessness" now in effect, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that it has placed only three units in "red alert" with the remainder still in "blue alert."

AFP units in "red alert" include the Davao City-based Eastern Mindanao Command, Zamboanga City-headquartered Western Mindanao Command, and Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, said military public affairs office chief Col. Edgard Arevalo.

"Red alert" requires 100 percent availability of all troops and equipment while "blue alert" only calls for 50 percent.

But depending on the situation, commanders of various military units nationwide can raise their alert levels to "red" if needed, Arevalo said.

President Duterte's "state of lawlessness" declaration stemmed from a bombing attack in Davao City last Sept. 2 which killed 14 people and wounded 71 others.

The Abu Sayyaf Group, a terrorist organization, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Military units in Sulu have been pressuring the brigands heavily since Aug. 26.
