Marawi City mayor declares Monday, Tuesday holidays
Marawi City, Phiippines
July 4, 2016
Marawi City Mayor Majul U. Gandamra declared Monday and Tuesday, July 4 and 5, 2016 as holidays in observance of Eid'l Fitr.
He did not mention if these are working or non-working holdays as these days are normal working days.
In a memorandum dated July 3, 2016 addressed to city hall officials, barangay heads and all other concerned, Gandamra declared July 4 and 5 as holidays in observance of Eid'l Fitr. He said however that celebrations will be "necessary after the observance of fasting."
Eid'l Fitr is marked during the first day of Shawwal that succeeds Ramadan to celebrate the culmination of the month-long Ramadan fast among the Muslims. It is one of the two major festivals in Islam -- the other is Eid'l Adha, that culminates the haj or pilgrimage to Makkah.
Malacanang usually declares a nation-wide non-working holiday on every Eid'l Fitr upon the advice of the National Commission of Muslim Filipinos.
