SUCCESSIVE SHOOTINGS OCCUR IN MARAWI

Three shooting incidents occurred successively in this Islamic City of southern Philippines, a military source revealed Wednesday, June 29.
Civil Military Operations Chief Col Benedicto Manquiquez of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division told The New Ranao Star that at about 10:20 o’clock in the morning of June 25, two unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle near a gas refilling station at Mapandi Street, barangay Tampilong, this City, fired at Capt Elzhoor D Jimlah and Abdulajid J Yusop.
Jimlah suffered a gunshot wound on his abdomen while Yusop died on the spot of multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of his body.
Jimlah is the Commanding Officer of Company D, 51st Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, while Yusop was his bodyguard.
The attackers used a .45 Caliber pistol as evidenced by empty shells recovered from the scene.
Manquiquis also disclosed that at about 12:30 past midnight on June 28, over one squad composed of 12 soldiers of B Company, 65 Infantry Battalion, PA, stationed at barangay Matampay, Marawi City, led by Sgt. Alrin C Wacam was fired upon by unspecified numbers of local terrorist groups using rocket propelled grenades and other high powered firearms.
Firefight lasted for 5 minutes resulting in the wounding in action of Pfc Kent Oliver G Duncano on his lower nape.
No casualties were reported on the attackers’ side as they fled to different directions after the firefight.
At about 4:40 o’clock P.M. on June 28, one squad of C Company of the 65th Infantry Battalion led by Sgt Dante A Boncales aboard a KM450 truck travelling along the road from this City to barangay Kilala was fired upon by more or less six men, believed to be members of a local terrorist group, on board a Red Ford Ranger vehicle at Barangay Gadungan. A firefight lasted for two minutes resulting in the wounding in action of PFC Mark Lloyd P Santua who sustained serious gunshot wound.
He was body was subsequently brought to Capin Funeral Homes in Camague, Tubod, Iligan City.
Immediately, all detachments of the 65th Infantry Battalion conducted intense checkpoint operations.
A squad of C Company troopers led by 1Lt Sinues from Kilala rushed to reinforce the troops under attack.
In a related development a CAA (Citizen Army) Nasrodin A Imam, 30 years old of barangay Lamen, Malabang , Lanao del Sur while harvesting cassava was reportedly shot to death by brothers Wadnan and Kamar Ampaso using Armalite and M14 Rifles.
Imam sustained wounds on his abdomen and right leg.
After the incident the assailants fled to the mountainous area above the barangay.
Imam was on active duty and was assigned in the said barangay. His body was immediately taken by the family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Initial findings revealed that the cause of the attack was Rido or Family Feud.
PB Commander Cpl Geronimo D Augelio Commander in the area immediately coordinated with 1LT Iosif Gino Jubas, S3, 6IB and the PNP for the investigation of the case.
The Unit also will see to it that the family of the slain CAA is assisted in the preparation of claims and other necessary papers.
