SP defers State of Calamity Resolution due to deficiency of support documents
Councilor Areola |
DILG City Director Foster Anayron told the SP that the ICDRRMC has not been convened.
According to Councilor Bayani Areola the Local Government Code and a City Ordinance provide that a Resolution declaring a state of calamity in Iligan City may be passed by SP once it receives a Resolution from the ICDRRMC recommending that a state of calamity shall be declared based on the reasons as may be determined by the ICDRRMC.
Earlier the Sangguniang Panlungsod received an endorsement from the City Mayor’s Office asking it to pass a resolution declaring a state of calamity in Iligan due to the effects of El Nino.
It may be recalled that a Resolution declaring a State of Calamity was not passed after Barangays Ubaldo Laya and Saray had a fire and many were rendered homeless because the ICDRRMC was not able to convene.
SP Veterans Areola and Anghay asserted that only the City Mayor can convene the ICDRRMC. The New Ranao Star
