Dateline Iligan. Habal-habal driver shot by carnap suspects?

A dead body of a habal-habal driver was found at the drainage canal beside the national highway of Barangay Maria Cristina, this city last December 17, 2015 at around 6:05 in the morning.

The dead body that suffered gun wounds at the center of the chest, at his back and at the right portion of his ribs was identified by police authorities as Jose Alpuerto Y Lagurino, also known as “Loloy”, 58 years old, driver, and resident of Purok Ubhay, Orellana, Tubod, Iligan City.

Police reports indicate that the police authorities responded to the telephone call of concerned citizen reporting that a dead body of a victim of shooting incident was found along the national highway of Purok 27, Bato Detachment, Barangay Maria Cristina, Iligan City on December 17, 2015 at around 7:10 in the morning.

Responding to the telephone call, Iligan City Police Station 2 dispatched duty personnel led by Police Senior Inspector Sabino Bacalan Labitad, together with seven other police officers to the scene of the crime to verify the shooting incident.

The report said that upon arriving at the scene of the crime, the Labitad team cordoned the area and promptly called for SOCO team assistance led by Police Supt. Mary Leoncy Mag-abo to conduct thorough investigation of the crime scene, after finding out that there had been a presence of a dead person at the drainage canal beside the national highway of the crime scene.

Police reports indicate that initial investigation showed that a certain Felimon Amacanin Y Ecohido, 77 years old, discovered the dead body on December 17, 2015 at around 6:05 in the morning while turning off the perimeter lights installed nearby the national highway of the crime scene.

Further police investigation indicated that a certain Margie Rebalde y Amacanin, 44 years old, disclosed that at around 2:00 am of December 17, 2015, she allegedly heard a heated argumentation of an unidentified persons at the front of their residence and later heard two gun bursts prompting her to secure herself inside the house.

The police report added that a certain Alicia Alpuerto y Paring, 58 years old, who arrived at the scene from the city proper revealed that the victim was identified as her husband, a certain Jose Alpuerto y Lagurino, also known as “Loloy”, 58 years old, driver and resident of Purok Ubhay, Orellano, Tubod, Iligan City.

The police report added that Alicia revealed that the victim left their residence on December 16 at around 9 am. while on board his driven XRM 110 color blue motorcycle to earn a living as habal-habal driver.

The police report said that upon arrival at the crime scene Alicia noticed that the victims’ driven motorcycle was no where to be found in the area and was believed to be taken by unidentified perpetrator/s after the shooting as there was an alleged motive of carnapping behind the event.

The police authorities are now conducting follow up investigation for the possible identification of the suspect/s and the firearm’s used, as the SOCO team has not yet recovered any traces of evidence from the crime scene, such as empty cartridges, for the identification of the fire arm used.

Police Inspector Eddie Emano Akut who made the report of the shooting and alleged carnapping incident to the Officer- in-Charge of the Iligan City Police Office, for and on behalf of the Officer–in-charge of the Iligan Police Station 2, said that the investigator–on-case was (IDM PNCO) PO3 Melven Janog Denore (09154904311) and Duty Investigator was PO3 Michael Anthony F. Guisando (09265535970).
