PILMICO GIVES LIVELIHOOD PACKAGES

ILIGAN CITY - PILMICO, a food subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., distributed livelihood packages to beneficiaries in Iligan, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental during its Food and Livelihood Expo at La Salle Academy Auditorium here, September 24.
Dubbed as Mahalin Pagkaing Atin, the food and livelihood expo was witnessed by members of Iligan Media.
Vice President Florencio Sebandal, Jr. led the PILMICO officials and employees in distributing 20 piglets and 10 egg machines to pre-screened beneficiaries.
The City government was represented by Councilor Marlene L. Young.
It was learned that the program aims to ensure sustainable entrepreneurship for Mindanao Farmers as Pilmico’s partners for growth.
The package included 2 piglets to each of the 10 deserving families plus one cycle feed consumption and another 10 egg machines to 10 deserving families also including one cycle feed consumption.
Each Pilmico-designeed egg machine includes a pen with 48 ready-to-lay hens that can generate about 30 eggs daily with an 80% production rate.
The piglets and egg machines were distributed as livelihood alternatives that will enable local farmers to sustain their livelihood through an easy to manage business with a quick return on investment, despite the threats of poverty, tragedy or conflict.
Pilmico’s Mahalin Pagkaing Atin Program was introduced nationwide in mid-2014 to promote sustainable entrepreneurship through promotion of local produce and instill a “pride of product, pride of place” mindset for both farmers and local consumers, thus enabling entrepreneurs to maximize profits without passing through middlemen.
To date, Pilmico has already donated a total of 726 piglets and 209 egg machines and assisted 14 agri-posts where beneficiaries receive feedbags as restart-up capital.
Additionally, 362 families nationwide are benefitting from the Mahalin Pagkaing Atin program now.
During the Food and Livelihood Expo here, success stories were told by beneficiaries in Misamis Oriental, Iligan and Lanao del Norte.
One Mrs. Aklaw of Lugait, Misamis Oriental related that she started with 1 sow and now she has 5.
She also said that she is now supplying Lugait Public Market with quality pork meat from her backyard farm.
