Dimaporo calls for more livelihood assistance
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – To provide residents of coastal communities with much-needed livelihood trainings and assistance from national government, 2nd District Representative Abdullah Dimaporo enlisted the help of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and National Fisheries Research and Development Institute(NFRDI).
From August 12 to 15, 2015, a team led by Francisco Santos of the Inland Fisheries and quaculture Research and Development Division (IFARDD) under BFAR conducted rapid assessment activities in coastal communities of Sultan Naga Dimaporo (SND).
“We are very happy with the full cooperation shown by the people of SND. We now have a clear picture of the fishing status here in Lanao del Norte particularly in SND”, expressed Santos.
During their evaluation and interviews of local fisherfolks, the Assessment Team were able to threshed out prevailing problems in the coastal barangays and validate fisheries data to determine the best strategy to improve the livelihood of these fishing communities as well as the appropriate aquaculture training recommended for each clustered barangays.
Members of the Rapid Assessment Team include a technician from the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), PCAO and PIO personnel and staff from the 2nd Congressional District’s Office.
“We are taking a holistic approach in providing livellihood assistance to identified communities. All the trainings in the world would only be useless if a person has the wrong working attitude”,
The livelihood training and assistance initiative of Congressman Dimaporo is currently being piloted in Sultan Naga Dimaporo where the biggest Mariculture park in Mindanao is located. VNL/PIO-LDN
