DATELINE ILIGAN. “TABOAN SA ILIGAN” OFFICIALLY OPENS
“Taboan sa Iligan,” one of the places that local and foreign tourists may visit during the Diyandi Festival in the Tourism month of September of every year officially opened last September on its new site at the end of Benito Labao Street Extension in barangay Saray.
The opening program was led by Acting Mayor Ruderic C. Marzo together with the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod led by Acting Vice-Mayor Providencio Abragan, Jr.
The finalists of the Search for Miss Iligan 2015 candidates were also present with department heads and some employees of the City government.
Taboan showcases local products of Iligan and different stalls for food, ready to wear apparels and souvenir items.
It institutionalized last 2004 the Mugna (Creation) Fair that started in 1998 during the time of then Mayor Franklin Quijano.
Mugna was envisioned to display all products “created” by Iliganons to tourists during the celebration of Tourism Month.
Rides and other carnival entertainments are now ready to serve the public at Taboan.
In his message Marzo repeated his Diyandi Festival wish that it will be lively and peaceful.
He assured the public that maintaining peace and order and protection of everybody are top priority concerns of the local government during the Diyandi Festival.
It may be recalled that the SP has passed a resolution requesting the Regional Office of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to increase personnel in the City.
It was learned that the new site of Taboan sa Iligan is accessible from the National Highway in Tibanga through the road in front of the former location of the BIR, Benito Labao Extension from Sabayle Street and Cabili Avenue Extension in Saray.
It will operate up to the first week of October, 2015.
