The “Programa sa Panginabuhian Para sa Pagkaon sa Pamilya (5Ps)” or Livelihood Program for the Food of the Family is now a regular program of the City government.
An Ordinance authored by SP Committee on Livelihood and Cooperative Development Chairman Roy Openiano making 5Ps a regular program of the City government was passed on third and last reading during the regular session of the SP last Tuesday.

Based on the said ordinance, the 5Ps shall be regularly funded through the share of the national wealth of Iligan from the National Power Corporation.

It was learned that the program shall be comprised of the three aspects of Food Production, Food for Work and Ca
pability Building.

Food production shall include organizing of groups to establish communal gardens that will serve as their source of food, the surplus of which will be sold in the market and the proceeds will be shared among the members.

In Food for Work, each member shall be given a kilo of rice, canned goods and noodles until the dry season or 32 days.

Capability Building shall include training on diligence in work, saving and cooperatives.

5Ps started in 2011 as a program under an Executive Order issued by then Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz.

The passage of the 5Ps ordinance under the administration of Acting Mayor Ruderic C. Marzo has institutionalized the program so that it shall continue beyond his term. – The New Ranao Star –
