Iligan opens drug treatment center

Acting Mayor Roderic C. Marzo ordered, July 20, the immediate opening and start of operation of the Iligan City Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (ICDTRC) in Fatima, Abuno, this city.

According to a report of the City Information Office, the order was made after City Engineer GuideonTaban promised to complete the three fire exits required by the Department of Health.

Earlier, Construction Division Head of the City Engineer’s Office Engineer HoneylynCanete committed to finish the fire exits in 13 working days from July 20, the report added.

It was also reported that Marzo disclosed during the Flag Raising Ceremony, July 20, that ICDTRC Program Director Ray Sagge, Gregorio T. Lluch Memorial Hospital Chief Dr. Anita Saloma and City Health Officer Dr. CherlinaCaƱaveral agreed to expedite securing from the Department of Health a License To Construct and License To Operate the facility as early as possible.

It may be recalled that the Iligan ICDTRCbuilding was constructed through the assistance of the National Dangerous Drugs Board during the time of former Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz under the direct coordination of the SP Committee on Dangerous Drugs Councilor Bayani Areola.

It was also learned that the ICDTRC seemed to be forgotten after Cruz stepped down, June 30, 2013 at the end of his last term of office though documents reaching newsmen showed that even wages of Radiomen were charged against the budget of the Iligan City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ICADAC) that was supposed to oversee the operation of the said facility.

Sources revealed that upon the assumption of Marzo as Acting City Mayor, the operation of the ICDTRC became a priority concern.

Accordingly, registration of patients who intend to undergo rehabilitation and treatment began July 20. – The New Ranao Star
