“Kalinga ng Bacolod,” a joint project of the 15th Infantry “Molave Warriors” Battalion (15th IB), Philippine Army in partnership with the Gawad Kalinga (GK), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the local government was successfully held at the Central Elementary School here, April 18-19.
Lt. Col. Leomar Doctolero, Battalion Commander told newsmen that the project is part of the continuing efforts within his area of responsibility to achieve a lasting peace in the locality and the entire Mindanao.
He added that the two-day activity consisted of a Facilitators Training for 80 Chirstian and Muslim Youth Leaders and 10 Army personnel, Lecture on Internal Peace and Security Program (IPSP) Bayanihan with the topics “Walang Iwanan” (by GK Faciliators), Lakas ng Pagbabago, etc., Briefing and Orientation for “Bihis Bayani” and Kalinga Night during the first day.
The Kalinga Night was made up of an Audio Presentation on the Philippine Army Today, Bihis Bayani an Jambayani, a music and dance event (by Molave Warriors Band).
On the second day began with Wake Up Exercises, followed by a “Lakad Para sa Kapayapaan”, “Paraisong Pambata: Batang Bayani (Larong Pinoy), Story Telling, Kids Football Clinic, Distribution of School Supplies and Jollibee Mascot Entertainment, Drug Forum (for the youth of Bacolod) by Ms. Rosemarie Bajao of PDEA, First Aid Training and Substance Abuse.
The Closing Program started with a Welcome Address by Mrs. Josephine I. Viscaya, School Principal.
Mr. Jake Gerona, Head of GK, Lanao del Norte gave his inspiration message reminding everybody of “Walang Iwanan.”
2nd Mechanized Brigade Commander Gilbert I. Gapay was represented by Lt. Col. Galileo R. Goyena, Jr., Executive Officer a short message on the thrusts of the Philippine Army towards achieving a lasting peace in Mindanao.
Councilor Alfons Jansen Marcera, represented Mayor Joselito E. Miquiabas, Jr. who said that this municipality was never affected by the hostilities between the government and the MNLF, MILF and other insurgent groups.
He added that they welcome the “Kalinga sa Maigo” program because they are also interested in the attainment of a lasting peace in Mindanao.
The activities culminated in a visit of the participants and visitors to the falls in Pagayawan and the caves in Binuni that the local government is promoting as tourist destinations.
