ARMM holds Ecowatch Summit
Haroun Al-Rashid Alonto Lucman, Jr., regional vice governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) led the launching of the EcoWatch Summit held in the Islamic City of Marawi on October 29-31 with students from the five provinces of the autonomous region taking active role and participation in enhancing awareness on the ecology and environment.
MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur — The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) launched an Ecowatch Summit here on October 29-31 which was participated in by some 160 students from the five provinces of the region.
With a theme “Bridging the Youth and the Environment,” the three-day Summit was held under the auspices of the Office of the Regional Vice Governor of ARMM, and a sequel of the same programs held in different parts of the region.
Dubbed as Eco Warriors, the selected students from Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur converged for the program primarily aimed to encourage the youngsters in ARMM to be vigilant in caring the mother earth and to have a one voice for the environment.
In the opening salvo, the activity is boosted by the hustling and bustling of the youngsters who showcased their yells in groups.
Each group gave message or impression about the activity.
Mr. Musa Diamla, Lanao del Sur Provincial Cooperative Officer, welcomed the guests and participants in behalf of Provincial Governor Mamintal A. Adiong, Jr.
On his part, Director Anwar Upahm, director of the Coordinating Development Agency on Bangsamoro Youth Affair (CDO-BYA) and manager of PAMANA, both in ARMM, addressed the participants.
He highlighted the significance of the youth in actively participating in determining their future.
He also talked some points about the incoming Bangsamoro government.
Mr. Cosain Abbas, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) for Lanao del Sur discussed “Environment Issues and Programs of ARMM.”
Notably, environmentalist Dr. Felimon Romero, a former chancellor of Mindanao State University (MSU) Tawi-Tawi, is present all throughout the program and he heads the delegation.
He discussed about marine life.
Former Assemblywoman Samira Gutoc-Tomawis, Chairman of Solid Waste Management Board also delivered an inspiring message.
Ms. Tomawis, also an active convenor of Kazalimbago Movement and leading personality of the Young Moro Professionals, urged the participants to look everywhere in their environs so that they will know what is happening and what they may do for their environment.
She also talked about the importance of sanitation in “everything we do.”
An advocate of save Lake Lanao Movement (SALLAM), Pips Naga discussed the Solid Waste Management.
The program is the initiative of Hon. Regional Vice Governor Haroun Alrashid A. Lucman Jr. and the sequel of the same programs conducted in the different islands.
It was learned that the next activity would be held in Bumbaran, Lnao del Sur.
