The Marawi City Athletic Meet or Palarong Lungsod ng Marawi was well-attended and journalists covering the event said it was one of the successful athletic meets in the history of the City.
The street parade which started from Al-Amanah Islamic Bank in Banggolo seemed unending.
While schools ahead had already gone miles away from the assembly area onward the venue at Kilala, still so many schools are in the starting point.
Hours had passed before all had finally reached the city division’s quadrangle. It was jump packed; there was almost a hundred per cent participation of schools offering basic education i.e elementary and secondary.
Though, guest speaker, Atty. Jamar M Kulayan, DepEd Secretary, and Sultan Fahad Pre Salic, Marawi City Mayor, did not arrive, the programme was well conducted.
The military, particularly the 103rd Brigade of the Philippine Army, the Philippine National Police, the city government, the Sangguniang Panlungsod, other government and non-government agencies were well represented. The media too was represented.
The formal opening program of the five-day Palaro started at about 10 AM with an invocation led by Sultan Sadrodin M. Diron, Ph.D., North District supervisor. It was followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and then the ARMM Hymn with the accompaniment of Banggolo Elementary School Band, and conducted by Ms. Jalilllah Abdul Jalil, Division ICT Coordinator.
Hadja Mona A. Macatanong, Marawi City Schools Division Superintendent, delivered an inspiring and touching welcome statement.
She emphasized that despite the very limited resources of her division, she was able to hold the Palaro successfully. She expressed her appreciation to her division officials, district officials, school principals and teachers for their untiring cooperation and support.
Plaques of BSP Outstanding Service Award were awarded to Superintendent Macatanong and to Mrs. Bedaria Corot by Sultan Ansary Maongco, BSP Western Mindanao President and Sultan Daud Mandia, BSP Council Executive.
Inspirational messages were delivered by City Councilor Sehawe Lala in behalf of the city government, Sultan Maongco in behalf of the BSP Western Mindanao, as well as in behalf of the provincial government in his capacity as Provincial Information Officer (PIO) and other dignitaries who were present during the occasion.
Finally, Sultan Haron M. Abato, EPS-1, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, formally opened the Palarong Panlungsod ng Marawi.
Heavy downpours suddenly fell but participants to the Field Demonstrations games which started the competitions on that day were not deterred.
The show went on as scheduled as participants from various schools in the city took their turns.
The activity had in it Variety Show, Sport Events and others.

1:00-5:00 — Folk Dance (Secondary)
8:00-5:00 — Start of all ball games

8:00-5:00 — RAP competition (Secondary and Elementary)
Day 4 (Friday) November 29 -
8:00-12:00 — Search for Mr. and Miss Youbg Marawi (Elementary)
1:00-5:00 — Search for Mr. and Miss young Marawi (Secondary)

1:00-5:00 — Closing Pogram and Awarding Ceremonies.
Games to be played are Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Baseball, Soccer Football, Chess, Sepak Takraw and athletics such as 100 meter run, 200 meter run, 400 meter run 800 meter run, Shot Put and Discuss Throw, among others.
