Marawi Barangay candidates sign peace covenant

Organized and coordinated by the City Mayor’s Office (CMO), the 103rd Brigade, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Lanao del Sur provincial office, and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the candidates signed a Peace Covenant on October 24 at the City Hall Complex compound.

The simple ceremony was witnessed by Elections officers, the military, the police and other concerned citizens.

The candidates pledged to hold the 2013 barangay elections peaceful and orderly.

The program started with an invocation led by Ustadj Jamil Mangadang and followed by the singing of the Philippine national anthem led by Sittie Naima of MIDCOP.

City Mayor Sultan Fahad “Pre” Salic welcomed the participants and acknowledged the presence of barangay candidates and other government officials in attendance.

Nonie Lao read the Peace Covenant or Kapasadan which was translated into Maranao dialect by Atty. Padoman Paporo.

This was followed by the signing of the covenant after which the swearing of all candidates was made by Ustadj Mangadang.

In his remarks, PSSupt Nickson B. Muksan, APD LDSPPO, enjoined the candidates tp respect the Peace Covenant and assured to deploy PNP personnel specifically on declared watch list barangays to help maintain peace and order.

Col. Glenn G. Macasero, commander of 103rd Brigade also asked the candidates to implement the covenant. He said a criminal or administrative case will be filed against violators of the Omnibus Election code during the barangay elections.
