Bangsamoro government condemns police profiling of Muslim students

MARAWI CITY: The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has condemned what it calls discriminatory profiling of Muslim students in Metro Manila by the Philippine National Police (PNP), BARMM's bureau of public information (BPI) said.

In its Facebook post on Friday, BPI said the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament in its "32nd session of the first regular session" adopted Resolution No. 201, entitled " A Resolution Condemning the Discriminatory Profiling of Muslim Students in Metro Manila by the District Community Affairs and Development Division of the Manila Police District.

It said the resolution is the Bangsamoro Government's action to address the issue on the controversial memorandum released by the DCADD on January 31, ordering their station commanders to submit lists of Muslim students in high schools, colleges and universities in Metro Manila.

The memorandum is believed to have subjected Muslim students to scrutiny by the law enforcement group due to their religious affiliation, which is a form of discrimination.

Member of Parliament (MP) Amir Mawallil said oppression "has no place in our homes, our communities, and our country."

“We will not allow this to happen, and we will not stand by to endure this injustice,” he added.

Mawalllil co-authored the resolution together with MP Anna Tarhata Basman, MP Atty. Lanang Ali Jr., and MP Marjanie Macasalong..

The BTA "appealed to fellow public servants and the government institutions to be more circumspect in introducing policies so that they promote inclusion and harmony instead of exclusion and disunity."
