AFP sends off troops to secure polls in Lanao

MARAWI CITY: In preparation of the Mid-term National and Local Elections on May 13, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), together with the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Commission on Elections formally sent off troops who will secure the polls in Lanao del Sur and Marawi in a ceremony held yesterday at Kampo Ranao here.
Colonel Romeo Brawner, Brigade Commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade based in Kampo Ranao said the AFP spearheaded the ceremony in collaboration with the Philippine National Police led by P/Col Madzgani Mukaram Provincial Director of Lanao del Sur which are deputized agencies that will perform various tasks to ensure the peaceful and successful elections.
Brawner said the troops were reminded to be neutral, professional, and strict yet respectfully. They were also directed to ensure that there will be "NO" failure of elections in the areas.
In another related development, it could be recalled earlier that AFP Chief Gen Benjamin Madrigal Jr. said the red alert status took effect on all military camps and units nationwide.
"This declaration is to ensure that our troops and all AFP personnel are ready to act on any emergency and thwart all possible threats that may arise," Madrigal said in a statement.
This declaration of the military is in support to the Comelec, as well as the Philippine National Police, for the National and local elections on Monday.
"We are ready to respond appropriately for the honest, orderly and peaceful conduct of elections", the AFP chief said (With reports from Phil Star/ATM/RSP).
