2,025 loose guns turned over in Maguindanao

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao: The 6th Infantry Division (6th ID) has recovered 2,025 loose firearms in its campaign to collect unlicensed firearms from civilians in Maguindanao.
Maj. Arvin Encinas, 6th ID spokesman, on Sunday said that on February 28, March 1 and 2, 1st Lt. Bladimer Suanque, commanding officer of Alpha Company, 90th IB, received a total of nine assorted loose firearms from residents of Barangay Poblacion, Pageda, Kilalan, Macadayon, Manggay and Kiladap, all of Talitay town.
He added that the surrender of the loose firearms was a result of joint efforts of Army troops and the Association of Barangay Captains of Talitay led by ABC president Datu Fajad Midtimbang.
Handed over were two M16 riffle, five shotguns, one homemade M14 rifle and one locally made .38 caliber pistol with assorted magazines and ammunition.
“The handover of firearms is a continuing campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms in the area of the 603rd Infantry Brigade,” Lt. Col. Crizanto Fernandez, 90th IB commanding officer, said. Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, 6th ID commander, expressed his gratitude to the efforts of the ABC of Talitay and its constituents for extending their support to the 6th ID’s campaign against loose firearms.
