MARAWI CITY: The UN Habitat program, “Rebuilding Marawi Through Community-Driven Shelter and Livelihood” is by far one of the most innovative housing programs ever introduced in this part of Mindanao.

It has a livelihood component unlike most housing projects introduced after the Marawi Siege. When asked about this, Social Housing and Finance Corporation (SHFC) president Arnolfo Cabling replied that the home partners selected for this program have already undergone a workshop on both house construction planning, design and implementation as well as in terms of livelihood.

“Livelihood can be anything,” said UN Habitat Country Programme Manager Christopher Rollo.  He said the home partners can set up a store shop, a restaurant or a delivery services.  “This would depend on them and they will be taught how to plan and manage their own local business.

Aside from providing funds for house construction, the home partner will also be given funds for livelihood assistance.  In effect this will empower the home partner families so that they can sustain their stay in the Dulay Program.

This program is an independent program from the grand plan to rebuild Marawi said SHFC president Cabling. (RSO/RSP)
