Lanao del Sur PNP lauds local candidates vow for peaceful, credible elections

MARAWI CITY: Some 400 individuals coming from different stakeholders including politicians, youth and student sector, women sector, the Commission on Elections, Barangay Local Government Units, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams, the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Armed Forces participated in Unity Walk, Prayer Rally and Covenant Signing activity spearheaded by the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (LDSPPO) on Sunday in this City.
LDSPPO Director Police Senior Superintendent Madzgani Mukaram said the event was successful as local candidates for elective positions in the locality have vowed to make the May 2019 elections peaceful and credible.
He said candidates for the 2019 polls signed a peace covenant called "Integrity Pledge" where they vowed for free, orderly, honest, peaceful and credible elections.
Mukaram encouraged everyone to let change happen for the betterment of the province by choosing a right candidate that will rightly serve the people.
Citing verses in the Muslim Qur'an, he said "let us change ourselves and repent" and not to let happen again the Marawi Siege.
Col. Romeo Brawner Jr., commander of 103rd Brigade based in Kampo Ranao in the city, challenged every local political candidate to have a peaceful election just like what had happened to the newly concluded Barangay Election which yielded a zero election related incidents in the province.
The participants assembled at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday at the People's Park in Kilometer Zero where they registered and started the 2.4 kilometer Unity Walk going to the Parade Ground of Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office at Camp Bagong Amai Pakpak, Marawi City for the Program Proper.
This kind of activity was simultaneously conducted in all other police provincial offices in the country to drumbeat the start of the election period in May 2019. (With story from MNY/RSP)
