ILIGAN CITY: The second batch of electric tricycles (e-trikes) for Marawi City have arrived at Iligan City Port on October 22 aboard a navy boat, LC 296 BRP Tagbanua, from Naval Station Sangley Point in Cavite City.
The 11 e-trikes, which are intended for residents affected by the May 23, 2017 Marawi siege, were immediately turned over by personnel from the Department of Energy (DOE) to the local government unit of Marawi City represented by Executive Assistant Asraf L. Gandamra.
In an interview with Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Gandamra said these units would be given to the barangays which have not yet received any unit from the first 10 e-trikes delivered on June 4.
“These e-trikes will greatly help the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in their livelihood so they can get back on their feet,” Gandamra said, as he expressed his gratitude to the government especially to DOE for “this big help” to Marawi.
Senior Science Research Specialist Simon Leonor of DOE’s Alternative Fuels and Energy Technology Division also disclosed that another navy boat is arriving at Iligan Port on Oct. 25 to bring 15 more e-trikes for Marawi City.
Leonor said Marawi City has been allotted 200 e-trikes which will be completely delivered early next year.
DOE is currently implementing Energy Efficient Vehicles Project or “E-Trike Project” to promote energy efficiency and clean technologies in the transport sector.
E-trikes are noise and smoke-free. (PIA-10/RSP)
