Mayor Sumagayan seeks community support vs drug pushers, users in Taraka municipality
TARAKA, Lanao del Sur: Town mayor Prof. Nashiba Gandamra Sumagayan sought the support of the community to help in the total eradication of illegal drugs and other criminality even as she urged them to report to authorities if they know of any drug-user or pusher in the municipality.
Mayor Sumagayan said this when she led the regular Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) Meeting of this municipality held Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Municipal Sports Complex.
Mayor Sumagayan said this when she led the regular Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) Meeting of this municipality held Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Municipal Sports Complex.
In her opening remark, Sumagayan said they hold MPOC meetings to be updated on problems and issues they are facing from time to time and discuss what solutions to be taken upon.
She said in Maranao vernacular: “So kababaloy a niyo raken a Olil Am’r rakus a giya Vice Mayor go so mga ingepeda tano sa dii kang gobyernowe sa giya Municipality a Taraka na di ami di panagontamanan a mirampay ami rkano so kapiya o gobyerno (As your mayor including the vice mayor and our co-workers in the local government of Taraka, we are doing our best to bring good governance).
“Si (Davao) Mayor Sarah Duterte na pidtaro iyan a gyanan a pud a galbuk a Illegal, lagid a gyanan a piracy, na madakul a tigiyan a mga piracy a di in dadagang, ogaid na kenaba gyanan i toonan natin ng pansin (Mayor Sarah Duterte said those other illegal works like selling of piracy but we will not concentrate on that).
“Ang dapat bigyan natin ng pansin na gyanan a kriminalidad like kidnapping, rape at droga na giyanan I miyakalala a problema a gobyerno a kailangan na makaogop tano a LGU (What we will concentrate on are criminalities like kidnapping, rape and drugs which are the biggest programs of the government that we must help).”
Sumagayan said: “How many times we have conducted MPOC meetings but still there are reports that some are peddling or using illegal drugs. As Mayor Duterte said you may not be a drug user or pusher but you can be a protector if you help or hide your friend or relative doing this illegal activity, especially if you know a drug-pusher or drug-user but you just keep it within yourself, you are already a part of it. How much more if you are the barangay chairman and you know such illegal activity is happening in your area but you don’t report it. This problem we must help each other to address.”
