Iligan LGU padlocks Maranao homes
ILIGAN CITY: Maranao residential houses in Bayanihan Village, Barangay Sta. Elena, this city were padlocked, electricity and water supplies cut-off, by local government authorities allegedly due to the illegal sale of the houses which were given by the government to Sendong victims as shelters.
The padlocking triggered negative comments and reactions' from the social media, especially from Maranaos.
Houses padlocked were said to be bought from original beneficiaries by mostly internally displaced Maranaos by the five-month Marawi Siege that started last May 23, 2017.
It was said the houses were awarded to the beneficiaries on condition as stipulated in the award contract that they MUST not sell it, lease it to others or do improvement not within the contract, and they must stay or live in their respective awarded houses, and if they will not live there they have to return to the government.
But all the contrary happened. Even without proof of ownership, Maranaos who could afford bought houses from the Sendong beneficiaries. And this is what irked the city government to padlock the houses. - Photos from various FB posts
