Davao City is overall champ in regional athletic meet

DAVAO CITY -- Davao City has continued to hold the top spot in the annual Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) when it clinched the championship in this year’s regional meet.
The Davao City Durians dominated almost all of the 21 sporting events after overwhelmingly bagging 184 gold medals, 111 silvers, and 76 bronzes at the closing of the DAVRAA at the University of Mindanao – Matina campus.
Davao City’s winning streak was attributed to the successful performance of the players in swimming, softball, futsal, chess, basketball, athletics, and gymnastics since the first day of the regional meet.
The medal standing of the city's bets this year signified their improvement from 126 golds, 105 silvers, and 76 bronzes in last year's DAVRAA meet held in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
Davao City is the consistent champion of the regional sporting meet since it began in 2003 despite the lack of sporting facilities. The Durians was followed by Tagum City Tagumpay garnering 58 golds, 54 silvers, and 61 bronzes.
The Digos City Trekkers landed on the third spot with 23 golds, 37 silvers, and 49 bronzes, followed by the Panabo City Banana Magnates in the fourth with 22 golds, 50 silvers, and 57 bronzes.
The Davao del Sur Cobras snatched the fifth spot with 15 golds, 25 silvers, and 39 bronzes while the sixth spot went to the Davao Occidental Slashers with 13 gold, 9 silvers, and 20 bronzes.
The Davao del Norte Pioneers took the seventh spot with 12 golds, 18 silvers, and 42 bronzes, and the Mati City Eagles landed in the eighth spot with 9 golds, 7 silvers, and 12 bronzes.
The Compostela Valley Gold dug the ninth spot got by with 8 golds, 25 silvers, and 53 bronzes, and the Davao Oriental Sunrisers in the 10th spot with 8 golds, 14 silvers, and 31 bronzes.
