Marawi displaced traders seeks relocation in unused terminal

Business leaders in Marawi City have asked the city government to allot the unused GMA Terminal as temporary business center until such time that the old market by the lake and the old Mercado in Banggolo be fully reconstructed which were devastated by the siege of the Islamic city.

Located in the northern part of the city, the GMA terminal was formerly used for vehicles plying the routes for Marawi-Iligan-Cagayan de Oro, the Marawi-Malabang-Cotabato and western destinations around the lake.

It may be recalled that among the resolutions presented during the first Bangsa Mranaw Congress (BMC) held in Iligan City on October 1, 2017 was to urge the City Government of Marawi allot the GMA Terminal as temporary business center for the immediate resumption of business activities and commence the economic development of Marawi City.

The business sector suggested the proposed business center should be under the supervision of the city government in close coordination with the Metro Marawi Business Chamber headed by Mohammadali Batabor who is also president of Marawi Traders Frequency group.
