Lumbatan barangays surrender 15 high powered, 19 short firearms
LUMBATAN, Lanao del Sur, November 10, 2017 -- Unprecedented in the 100th-year existence of the Municipality of Lumbatan, assorted unlicensed and loose firearms were surrendered en masse last October 28, to proper authorities at Barangay Lumbaca Bacayawan here.
The historic yielding of firearms was facilitated by Lumbatan’s local chief executive, Mayor Allan Lao and its 21 barangay chairmen.
A total of 15 high powered firearms and 19 short firearms from different barangays of Lumbatan were collectively surrendered to PSSupt. John Guyguyon, Provincial Director of Lanao del Sur- Police Provincial Office.
The massive surrendering of firearms is in compliance with the Philippine National Police programs Kontra Boga and Bilang Boga.
“Umpisa pa lang ito ng pag implement ng Kontra Boga (Expired licensed firearms) at Bilang Boga (loose firearms) PNP program, yong mga nagtatago naman ng loose firearms na identified at hnd nag cooperate na magsurrender ay aapplyan namin ng search warrant para maoperate sila with legal basis," said PCI Mike Musad COP Lumbatan Municipal Police Station.
Present during the historic event were local government officials, Sangguniang Bayan members headed by the Vice Mayor Mohiddin Mua, LDS- PPO officials including Provincial Director Guyguyon, Col. Ganaban Ali, Deputy Provincial Director for Operation; PCI Munib Musad, COP of Lumbatan Municipal Police Station; Major Meneses, Ex O-65IB; and Lt. Sinues, Commanding Officer of Charlie Company-65IB.
During the dialogue cum consultative meeting on October 16 between the LDS- PPO, Lumbatan’s officials and its stakeholders, the issue of proliferation of loose firearms was raised. This prompted Mayor Lao to urge everyone to surrender his unlicensed firearms which led to the October 18 unprecedented event.
