29 Luinab Farmers complete training on Vegetable Production at Balay sa Hardin

ILIGAN CITY – 29 Farmers of Luinab, this city, finished last October 10, a season-long training at the Farmers Field School on Vegetable Production in Balay sa Hardin, a Learning Site accredited by the Agricultural Training Institute, Regional Training Center X, El Salvador City.

During the graduation exercises, Gloria Fernando, presented the trainees to Marcos Rubin, representative of Dr. Angelito Quirog, Ph.D., Regional ATI Director.

She and her husband Arthur conducted the season-long training which ended after the trainees harvested they vegetables planted in their respective farm lots and backyards.

The program was opened by Mary Ann Beley, Supervising Agriculturist of the City Agriculture Office.

Atty Giovanni Encabo, representing Mayor Celso Regencia, expressed the latter’s wish that the farmers of Iligan will increase their productivity.

Marcos Rubin told the trainees that nowadays, it is no longer a question of who has the biggest cultivated farm but who has the greatest yield.

Enecita Canoos, the Batch Topnotch Farmer said that she has stopped planting corn after learning vegetable production.

She said that in vegetable production, she harvests earlier and earn bigger as the consumer demand for fresh and organic farm products is high.

The Vegetable Production Course uses organic farming technology where no chemical fertilizers and pesticides are applied in nutrition and pest management, said Art Fernando, the owner of Balay sa Hardin.

“One who plants a garden plants happiness,” was the theme of the graduation program.
